What is the “Sweet Life?”
Sandwiched between two great oceans is the American Continent, blessed with an abundance of sweet water – from the Everglades “River of Grass” to the great rivers of the Pacific North West. Sportsmen from sea to sea enjoy the bounty and beauty of our fresh water creeks, ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, and reservoirs. Here we live and breathe the outdoor experience. Here is where we feel so close to God, immersed in His Creation. Here is where we gather around a campfire to share stories and feast on the day’s harvest. Watching the ever changing seasons, and seeing the moon and sun rising and setting in perfect order cause me to be in awe of an amazing God who created it all. It is in Him that I put my trust, in this life and in the life to come.
Next time you’re out, remember to give thanks for all of your blessings as you enjoy the sweet life. Sweet Life Outdoors – it’s where you’d rather be!
All the best!
The History of Peace River Turkey Calls
I began making turkey calls as gifts for friends and family members in 1990. I first made 1-piece Gaskins-style calls from Eastern cedar. Then I made a few slate calls. My favorite has always been the box call. I began hearing stories of success using these calls. One hunter told me he could sell all I could make. I don’t know if that’s true, but I thought I would give it a try. I had two young boys at the time and spent all my spare time enjoying them. Before I knew it they were in college and I devoted more time to making calls. Finding a nice piece of curly maple really got me going. I made a couple dozen and first offered them for sale in March 2005. From the beginning I elected to donate $5 from every call to the National Wild Turkey Federation. I firmly believe in supporting the hunting we enjoy. You can join by calling 800-THE-NWTF.
Remember to teach a youngster the sport. Good Hunting!
